What is ECBA?
ECBA™ (Entry Certificate in Business Analysis) is an entry-level certification for people new to business analysis.
As per IIBA (the International Institute of Business Analysis), it covers the foundational knowledge on business analysis according to the BABOK® Guide and showcases that you have the core knowledge and competencies required in the field of business analysis.
Why is ECBA important?
ECBA™ showcases that you have the core knowledge and competencies required in business analysis from the leading authority in business analysis, IIBA.
If you are relatively new to Business Analysis, achieving ECBA helps you stand out from the crowd when applying for Business Analyst jobs/roles and it gives you the required knowledge and confidence to perform well at your work.
Surveys show that certified Business Analysts get paid better than those who do not hold any certification!
What is the process to write the ECBA exam?
IIBA has simplified the process for achieving ECBA certificate by removing the application process and the separate application fee!
Furthermore, the previous requirement for 21 professional development hours has also been removed.
Now you simply need to register for an account with IIBA, agree with their code of conduct/terms and conditions, pay the ECBA exam fee and book a date for the exam. See here for full details.
What is the structure of the ECBA exam?
ECBA™ exam can be written online (it is remote proctored).
The exam duration is 75 minutes. 50 situation-based and standard multiple-choice questions are asked.

What is asked in the ECBA exam?
The ECBA exam covers 9 domains. The first 3 foundational domains are covered in The Business Analysis Standard. The remaining 6 domains are based on the BABOK® guide and cover practical application of the Business Analysis Core Concept Model (BACCM).
The exam is based on all the Knowledge Areas and selected Techniques from the BABOK® guide.
The exact exam blueprint (i.e., sections from the Business Analysis Standard, the BABOK guide and what percentage of questions are asked in the exam from the various sections/Knowledge Areas) can be found in the ECBA handbook.
